A Glimpse of Thailand with @mightymouse2022
Day 7, stop 4, was the Wat Rong Suea Ten, also known as the Blue Temple, in Chiang Rai, north of the Kok River, known for its striking modern artistic design. The temple's construction was initiated by the local community in 1996 to replace an old abandoned temple that previously stood on the site. Construction did not start until 2005. Its final design was realized by local artist Phuttha Kabkaew, or Sala Nok. Sala, being a northern Thai title for an artist who learned from Chalermchai Kositpipat while working on his famous Wat Rong Khun, is just outside the city. Wat Rong Suea Ten's main building was completed in 2016 and follows in the unconventional neo-traditional style of Buddhist art. Pioneered by Chalermchai, employing lavishly ornamented sculptures and psychedelic visual imagery.

Gyeongju is an ancient city of the Silla Dynasty. We visited the Daereungwon Tomb complex, where kings and queens are buried under the mounds. Next we went to Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, beautifully restored after being destroyed. Woljeonggyo Bridge at night—we walked through during the day, but it really shines at night. Bulguksa Temple (built in 774) and Seokgurum Grotto were both fascinating! Bulguksa Buddhist Temple is divided into 3 parts and surrounded by 2 stone pagodas. Seokgurum Grotto is built into a mountain, and once you get to the top, the view is amazing and you can see the ocean.
