Tokyo: Picnic and Boating with Cherry Blossoms

April is a great time to see Tokyo's famous sights and the cherry blossoms in the same trip. We'd recommend Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. It has a lot of different cherry tree varieties, so you can see blossoms from February to late April. It's also more open than busy spots like Meguro River and Ueno Park, thus relatively less crowded. For a picnic, head to Shiba Park. You can spread out under the cherry trees and look up to see Tokyo Tower. Or float down the Sumida River in a small boat and enjoy the blossoms comfortably.

If your trip overlaps with the Shinagawa Canal Festival (around April 11), it's worth stopping by in the evening to enjoy some local food, live performances, and a small fireworks display.

Mt. Fuji: Lakeside Cycling and Outdoor Onsen

In April, Mount Fuji's peak is still covered in snow. At Arakurayama Sengen Park, you can climb the steps to the famous viewpoint and take a picture of the red five-story pagoda, spring blossoms, and Mount Fuji in the background.
