Start with a quiet morning at Shinjuku Gyoen, a large garden in the middle of the city and one of Tokyo's best cherry blossom spots. Then head to Senso-ji, the city's oldest temple, and browse Nakamise Street on the way in.

Then walk to nearby Sumida Park, where cherry blossoms line the riverbank with Tokyo Skytree rising behind them. Round off the day with a relaxing cruise on the Sumida River.

Start at Meiji Shrine, where a tree-lined path leads you away from the city noise. Then enjoy a picnic at Shiba Park, surrounded by cherry blossoms.

In the afternoon, visit teamLab Borderless to experience one of Tokyo's most unique contemporary art spaces. There you will see interactive light installations fill the rooms and change as you move through them.

Today, travel from Tokyo to the Mount Fuji area.

You'll first visit Arakurayama Sengen Parka. A short hike takes you to see the iconic picture of Japan, the five-story pagoda with snow-capped Mt. Fuji rising behind it.

Then, take a scenic boat ride on Lake Kawaguchiko to see the mountain and its reflection from the water. Before heading to your onsen hotel in Hakone, visit Oishi Park for a stroll among those seasonal flowers against the lake and mountains.

Today is yours to enjoy as you like. Your Hakone Free Pass covers local transport and many of the area's main attractions, including the Lake Ashi cruise, the ropeway, and the cable car, so you can choose what to do without worrying about tickets.

A classic way to spend the day is to cruise across Lake Ashi, ride the ropeway up to Owakudani to see the steaming volcanic valley and try the local black eggs, then end the afternoon among the gardens at Gora Park. Sure, if you would rather take it slow, you can also spend the day relaxing at your onsen hotel.

With an easy guide and map on hand, make your way to Odawara Station (Hakone), from where you'll board the Shinkansen to Nagoya Station (about 1.5 hours), and then change to a Limited Express Train to Takayama Station (about 2.5 hours).

Upon arrival, head to the hotel by yourself and have the rest of the day at leisure.
