About This Trip
Travel dates: Nov. 23, 2026 - Nov. 28, 2026
Each November, Chiang Mai glows under thousands of rising lanterns. Yet beyond the luminous sky lies a deeper story: one of ancient rituals, hillside villages, saffron-robed monks, and gentle encounters with elephants.
This small-group journey invites you to experience Yi Peng not as a spectator, but as a participant. From sacred chanting ceremonies led by Buddhist monks to walking the old city's hidden lanes, from meeting hill tribe communities to caring for rescued elephants, this is a festival trip woven with authentic northern Thai life.
Come for the lanterns. Stay for the soul of Lanna.

Itinerary
- Chiang Mai
After breakfast, travel into the mountains surrounding Chiang Mai to visit a Hmong hill tribe village. Set on a hillside overlooking the valley, the village offers insight into northern Thailand's ethnic diversity. Observe traditional clothing, handicrafts, and daily life in a community that has preserved its cultural identity for generations.
Continue to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the most revered temple in Chiang Mai. Perched high above the city, the temple enshrines a sacred relic of the Buddha and has been a pilgrimage site for centuries. From the terrace, enjoy sweeping views across the old city and countryside below while learning about the spiritual foundations of Lanna culture.
In the evening, attend the Yi Peng lantern ceremony at Lanna Dhutanka, one of the most established and respected festival venues in Chiang Mai. The event is carefully organized, creating a calm and meaningful atmosphere rather than a crowded spectacle.
As the ceremony begins, monks lead prayers and a short meditation, inviting participants to pause and reflect before lighting their lanterns. When the signal is given, hundreds of lanterns rise together into the night sky in a single, breathtaking moment. It is both peaceful and powerful, a shared experience that feels intimate despite the scale of the celebration.
