Top 6 Photography Places in Jordan

Jordan, home to the famous archaeological site of Petra, attracts visitors from all over the world with its ideal blend of ancient monuments, nature reserves, and seaside resorts. A trip to Jordan is highly recommended if you are a photography enthusiast looking to add some distinguished photos to your album.

Petra (established around the 6th century), known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its incredible frescoes has another beautiful name, the 'City of Roses'. It's located 250km away from Amman and rounded by continuous mountains. Most of its architecture is carved in stones like The Treasury which is one of Jordan's most popular attractions and contains famous monuments with delicate graphics on them. Today, this city is the New 7 Wonders of the World.

When you enter this historical site, you will go through a passage lying under the bottom of the canyon which was called Siq with a full-length water tunnel built on the left side of the gorge. The total length of it is 1.5 km. Sometimes, you could see local villagers drive the donkey cars passing by, and after you are walking through this passage, you will get the sight of the Treasury, a 40 meters building supported by six pillars. To give a near look, the outside wall is carved with some intricate patterns and various vivid pictures like angels, warriors with wings and the sons of the god Zeus.

Coming into the chamber, the walls retain some pristine images. Good acoustics has been applied here since you can see some man-made strips carved in the walls. Some people prefer to get to the top of the mountain, where you can snap a panorama of the magnificent Treasury.

The next scene on the right of The Treasury is the street of facades. That place contains several chambers whose size is smaller and whose patterns are fewer. Here you need to hold a low position to snap because it's totally inside the mountains and hardly recognized from a higher place.

In front of the facades was a Roman theatre that is continuing Roman features - the round shape. Although the central area is a ruined site, it's vast and you can still take some beautiful photos of columns standing there from the mountains. You will not miss this place for the first time trip to Jordan.

The Wadi Rum Reserve is located in Ma'an a city in southern Jordan near the border with Saudi Arabia and covers an area of 740 square kilometers. By the way, it was the main shooting location for the film 'Lawrence of Arabia'.

As walking in the desert takes a lot of effort, the Jeep Parade in there is highly recommended. You can drive to any place you want in the defined area. If you'd like to take photos of exotic flavors, then you should find a flat ground and put on a blanket, and you can sit down with the camera placed at 45 degrees near the side of your feet to allow the shot to cover half of the sky and yourself. Or you can hold the camera to capture the distant hillside, surely you will be amazed by the wonders and magnificence of this land.

The other interesting place to go in the desert is the Train of Jordan Heritage. The train here is a real object which can drive people, but it's not a regular train. It's a local show which takes you back to Jordan 100 years ago. As the train moves slowly, you can enjoy the food or drink in passing scenes of this 14km journey, and don't forget to take a photo with this gigantic object at the end of the show.

After the whole day traveling in this desert, let's appreciate the starry night sky to relax. The starry night in Rum sky is quite different from that in our city. Without the skyscrapers and the man-made neon, your vision is infinitely enlarged in the desert, the vast Milky Way is like a beautiful painting spreading out above your head, and local astronomers will also participate in it to explain to you this.

In addition, remember to prepare some warm clothes, because in the evening the desert could be cold and bring cameras with evening models, otherwise the beautiful sky cannot be caught with its full charm.
