Costa Rica Excursion: Arenal Volcano & Monteverde Cloud Forest

Welcome to Costa Rica!

After arrival and customs, you will meet our representative outside the airport and take the private transfer to your hotel in downtown San Jose. On the way, you will receive a brief introduction to Costa Rica and some recommendations for your trip.

After checking-in, you may like to venture out in the neighborhood and try the restaurant at Hotel Grano de Oro, one of the finest in the city.

Meet your driver after breakfast and set off to the Arenal Volcano. En route, you will visit an authentic Costa Rican coffee plantation in which to learn how coffee is planted and made. Afterward, have a detour to the Iguana Bridge, you will have a chance to see the iguanas around hang out in the trees.

Arenal Volcano is the most active volcano in Costa Rica. Surrounding it are several thermal rivers and vast rainforests inhabited by a huge variety of birds and animals, such as parrots, toucans, sloths, monkeys, peccaries, etc. Arrive in the Arenal Volcano area late in the afternoon and spend overnight at your hotel that enjoys a picturesque view of the volcanic cone.

This morning, you will walk deep into the rainforest of the Arenal Volcano National Park along its well-designed trails and mystical hanging bridges, immerse in the sea of deep green, and marvel at the biodiversity of this area. Thanks to the sharp eyes of your guide, you may see some uncommon animals during this excursion.

Later on, continue with a guided tour to an organic farm at Vida Campesina where you can take part in some of the activities such as milking the cow, making tortillas, milling sugar cane, fetching water from a handmade well, and so on. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the environment by sponsoring and planting a tree in danger of extinction and enjoying an authentic farm-to-table lunch cooked on a woodstove.

After lunch, you may like to walk around the town yourself, visit crystalline rivers, or soak yourself in one of the many Arenal Volcano hot springs. If you like biking, you can also rent a bike and ride through different towns near La Fortuna.

Take a boat across the emerald Arenal Lake. During the journey, you will enjoy stunning views of the Arenal Volcano and its surrounding mountains.

Upon arrival on the other side of the lake, meet your driver for the transfer to Monteverde Cloud Forest, a tropical rain forest with an altitude of about 1,700 meters and the habitat of many rare animals and plants, including more than 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, over ten thousands of insects, and more than 2,500 species of plants. It is one of the best places to see hummingbirds. This afternoon, you will enjoy a guided tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
